Frequently Asked Questions

PERMITS:

  • I forgot my password and/or my PIN. How do I retrieve them?
  • I forgot my permit number and/or my username. How do I retrieve them?
  • Where do I get a hunting or fishing permit?
    • Your station hunting and fishing permits can be purchased from our website. You must first register for an account. Once signed in to your account, you can then purchase your permits (hunting, fishing, scouting and trapping.)
  • Why can't I see my permit after I submit my credit card information?
    • The credit card information you enter when purchasing a hunting or fishing permit must match exactly with what your credit card company has on file.  If it does not, the transaction will not be processed and you will not receive your permit.  You should see a new window open with your permit displayed shortly after you "submit" your credit card information.  If you do not then your transaction could not be completed and you were not charged.  Verify your credit card information and try again.
  • My purchase was delcined / got an error message after entering my credit card information.
    • Make sure that you have entered the address associated with the credit / debit card. If the address on your ISportman account does not match what the bank has, the transaction will be declined.
    • Also make sure you have entered the right security code (3 numbers on the signature strip) as that could also cause a declined transaction.

HUNTING:

  • When is your next hunter safety class?
    • The schedule for all  Maryland Certified Hunter safety classes can be found by clicking on http://dnr2.maryland.gov/nrp/Pages/hunter_education_classes.aspx.  NAS Patuxent River has submitted their 2016 course schedule and it is listed on the above link.  People interested in these classes can register on the Maryland DNR website.
  • When are the hunting permits going to be available?
    • Hunting permits for the upcoming hunting season will be available August 01.
  • What is needed to bring my weapon on base for hunting?
    • All weapons used to hunt on base must first be registered. You will need to take the make/model and serial numbers from your weapons to Gate 2 Pass and ID office. You also need to complete a background check form (download a copy to complete HERE).  They will process the information and provide you with paperwork to keep with you at all times while you have the weapon(s) on base.
  • When can I put up my portable tree stand or ladder stand?
    • Portable tree stand can be put up 45 days prior to the opening of the deer archery season.  Any stands put up prior to this date are subject to removal and confiscation by the Conservation Branch.  Any stands left in the woods more than 45 after the end of the deer hunting season will be considered abandon and removed by the Conservation Branch.
  • Is there a season on base for Coyote?
    • Yes, coyote hunting and trapping is authorized on base (NAS and WFA).  All appropriate State of Maryland licenses and permits apply.  A station trapping permit is required if you plan to trap coyote or any fur bearer.  The Station seasons and bag limits notice lists the open seasons for coyote hunting and trapping.
